Yorkshire Air Museum to Host Launch of National Cold War Heritage Week 2026

The Yorkshire Air Museum will host the official launch of National Cold War Heritage Week 2026 on May 15, bringing together museums and heritage organizations from across the UK to highlight Cold War history through exhibitions, talks, and special events.

The Yorkshire Air Museum will host the official launch of National Cold War Heritage Week 2026 on Friday, May 15, bringing together museums, historians, and heritage organizations from across the UK to celebrate and preserve the history of the Cold War era. Coordinated by The Cold War Network, National Cold War Heritage Week will feature events at more than 20 participating sites nationwide. The week-long program will highlight the people, aircraft, military technology, and stories that shaped Britain during the Cold War period.

The launch event at the Yorkshire Air Museum will include presentations and interviews with representatives from The Cold War Network, Yorkshire Air Museum, York Army Museum, and English Heritage. Media attendees will also have opportunities to photograph and film Cold War aircraft, museum collections, and exhibition spaces throughout the museum grounds. A featured presentation by Iain Betson will explore the Wartime Broadcasting Service and its role during periods of heightened Cold War tension.

National Cold War Heritage Week will run from May 18–24, 2026, with participating museums and heritage organizations hosting exhibitions, tours, talks, and special events designed to encourage public engagement with Cold War history and its continued relevance today.

Born in Milan, Italy, Moreno moved to the U.S. in 1999 to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. His aviation passion began early, inspired by his uncle, an F-104 Starfighter Crew Chief, and his father, a military traffic controller. Childhood adventures included camping outside military bases and watching planes at Aeroporto Linate. In 1999, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to obtain his commercial pilot license, a move that became permanent. With 24 years in the U.S., he now flies full-time for a Part 91 business aviation company in Atlanta. He is actively involved with the Commemorative Air Force, the D-Day Squadron, and other aviation organizations. He enjoys life with his supportive wife and three wonderful children.
