The success of the first Warbird Weekend, held at Idaho County Airport in Grangeville, Idaho on July 12th, 2012 took the event organizers by surprise, with crowds exceeding even their most optimistic projections. With last year’s event clearly in mind, the organizers have expanded this year’s show to two days, July 13th and 14th.
Last year saw the normally sleepy rural airport attended by The Experimental Aviation Association’s Young Eagles program who brought six planes to provide kids free airplane flights, as well as several classic aircraft, an N3N biplane, a Lockheed PV2 Harpoon, a Vultee BT-13A Valiant and a North American T-6 Texan. Helicopters included two Idaho Air National Guard Lakota UH-72As and a US Forest Service Sikorsky Sky Crane CH54.
This year’s event promises to be even larger and more successful than last, with free rides for children as well as paid rides being available on some historic craft along with a whole host of aviation activities for attendees of all ages, from tours of the US Forest Service’s Grangeville Air Center smokejumper facility to a remote control aircraft demonstration.

Born in Milan, Italy, Moreno moved to the U.S. in 1999 to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. His aviation passion began early, inspired by his uncle, an F-104 Starfighter Crew Chief, and his father, a military traffic controller. Childhood adventures included camping outside military bases and watching planes at Aeroporto Linate. In 1999, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to obtain his commercial pilot license, a move that became permanent. With 24 years in the U.S., he now flies full-time for a Part 91 business aviation company in Atlanta. He is actively involved with the Commemorative Air Force, the D-Day Squadron, and other aviation organizations. He enjoys life with his supportive wife and three wonderful children.
