*** Rescheduled Due to Inclement Weather – New Date: Saturday, August 23rd ***
The Military Aviation Museum has announced that Flying Proms 2025 will serve as a powerful tribute to American history, commemorating three landmark anniversaries: the 250th birthdays of the United States Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. Each of these storied military branches was born in the crucible of the American Revolution, forged with distinct missions but united in their enduring service to the nation. Flying Proms 2025 will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Tickets and event details are available now at www.militaryaviationmuseum.org.
The Navy and Marine Corps—each with 250 years of proud service—will be celebrated with a rare and spectacular display of naval and marine aircraft. Among the highlights will be a flight demonstration by a Curtiss SB2C Helldiver, one of only three airworthy examples in the world. The aircraft, operated by the Commemorative Air Force in Texas, will make a special East Coast appearance in honor of the Navy’s founding and its deep roots in the region, including operations from nearby NAS Oceana.
Joining the Helldiver will be several aircraft from the Museum’s own collection, including the FM-2 Wildcat, TBM Avenger, and the iconic F4U Corsair. All three types were flown in significant numbers by both Navy and Marine Corps aviators, reflecting the close operational ties and shared heritage of these sister services.
Flying Proms 2025 will also mark the 75th anniversary of the Korean War—a conflict often overshadowed in the public consciousness but critical in shaping post-World War II geopolitics. The Museum will pay tribute to those who served in Korea with an aerial salute featuring its own AD-4 Skyraider. This particular aircraft holds historic significance, having launched missions from the deck of the USS Valley Forge during the war’s earliest naval strikes over Pyongyang, including support during the Inchon landings and the breakout from the Pusan Perimeter.
In a special appearance, the AD-4 will be joined by the AD-5W Skyraider from Vintage Flying Machines. The aircraft’s owner, Tim Savage, dedicated its participation to his late father, a Korean War veteran, adding a deeply personal dimension to the commemorative flyover.
With historical aircraft in flight, stirring orchestral performances, and tributes to the men and women who shaped American history in times of war and peace, Flying Proms 2025 promises to be one of the most poignant and memorable events of the year. Flying Proms 2025 will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025—coinciding with the official 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. Tickets and event details are available now at www.militaryaviationmuseum.org.
