The Museum of Flight’s Free First Thursday Moves to January 15 Due to New Year’s Holiday

With New Year’s Day falling on the first Thursday of January, the Museum of Flight is making a one-time change to its Free First Thursday schedule. While the Museum will be open during regular daytime hours on January 1, free evening admission will instead take place on Thursday, January 15, from 5 to 9 p.m. The shift allows staff and volunteers to observe the holiday and also gives visitors one last free opportunity to experience The MiG-21 Project exhibit before it closes later in the month.

Because New Year’s Day falls on the first Thursday of January in 2026, the Museum of Flight, Seattle, is handling Free First Thursday a little differently. The Museum will still be open on New Year’s Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., but it will close at the regular time rather than staying open into the evening. Instead, January’s Free First Thursday has been moved to Thursday, January 15, with free admission available from 5 to 9 p.m. Reservations are not required. The schedule change gives Museum staff and volunteers the chance to spend the holiday with family and friends. Free First Thursday will return to its normal schedule on Thursday, February 5. The January 15 evening will also be the final opportunity for visitors to experience The MiG-21 Project exhibit at no cost. The exhibit closes to the public on January 26.
