The iconic B-25 Mitchell bomber Yellow Rose will be on static display alongside the B-29 DOC at the B-29 DOC Hangar, Education and Visitors Center in Wichita from August 19–26, 2025. Operated by the Commemorative Air Force Central Texas Wing in San Marcos, Texas, Yellow Rose shares a powerful historical connection with the B-29. The B-25 gained fame as the aircraft used by the Doolittle Raiders in 1942, marking the first U.S. air attack on mainland Japan during World War II. Just three years later, the B-29 played a pivotal role in the war’s closing chapters, delivering the final missions that led to Japan’s surrender on September 2, 1945.
Displaying both aircraft together offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience two legendary warbirds that symbolize the beginning and the end of America’s air campaign in the Pacific, while honoring the courage and sacrifice of the Greatest Generation. The B-29 DOC Hangar, Education and Visitors Center will be open for public tours on: Tuesday, August 19 – 9 a.m. to 2 p.m, Thursday, August 21 – 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, August 23 – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Following the Wichita display, B-29 DOC will depart on Wednesday, August 27, for a tour stop in Cincinnati, Ohio, where it will be joined by P-51 Gunfighter and B-25 Berlin Express. B-25 Yellow Rose will continue its journey on Friday, August 29, for a scheduled appearance in Denver, Colorado.
