Lancaster PA474 Begins 18-Month Major Maintenance Program at Duxford

Lancaster PA474 of the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight has flown from Coningsby to Duxford to begin an 18-month Major maintenance program with the Aircraft Restoration Company. The extensive overhaul will safeguard the continued airworthiness of the 80-year-old Lancaster, with exclusive updates provided to RAF Memorial Flight Official Club members throughout the maintenance period.

Lancaster PA474 has been transferred to Duxford to begin its scheduled Major maintenance program. As previously announced, the Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Lancaster is set to undergo an extensive 18-month overhaul conducted by the Aircraft Restoration Company (ARCo). The full scope of the work—designed to ensure the continued airworthiness of the 80-year-old aircraft—was outlined in the RAF Memorial Flight Official Club’s 2025 Autumn Journal.

On 29 October, Lancaster PA474 departed RAF Coningsby for Duxford, flown by Squadron Leader Paul “Ernie” Wise with Flight Lieutenant Seb Davey and crew. The aircraft is now housed in ARCo’s Stephenson Hangar, where the maintenance program is underway. The RAF Memorial Flight Official Club will provide members with exclusive updates throughout the course of the overhaul.
