Back for a third year, the WWII Weekend Photo Experience brings photographers closer to the action during the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum’s legendary WWII Weekend airshow, set for June 5–7, 2026. Packed with warbirds, thousands of reenactors, and countless experiences, the 35th annual airshow promises to be unforgettable. The Photo Experience provides professional and amateur photographers with exclusive opportunities throughout the weekend in one comprehensive package. This includes three-day access to the photo pit, a sunset photo walk on Friday evening, a sunrise photo walk on Saturday morning, the nighttime engine shoot on Saturday night, and a three-day pass to WWII Weekend.

The Photo Pit
Returning for its fourth year, the photo pit remains a highlight of the experience. Located on the opposite side of the field from the main event, just above runway 13, the pit offers photographers unobstructed views of air performances. Situated inside the airshow fence and close to the airshow box, the pit allows for excellent takeoff and taxi shots depending on wind conditions. One of the biggest advantages of the photo pit is its positioning. Being opposite the main crowd ensures the sun is always at your back, keeping aircraft evenly lit throughout the day. Participants also enjoy nearby parking, a 20×20 event tent, port-a-potties, and complimentary bagged lunches and beverages throughout the weekend. Photographers are asked to bring their own seating.
Sunset and Sunrise Photo Walks
The guided sunrise and sunset photowalks along the flightline are a favorite among participants. These tours allow photographers to get up close to parked aircraft under unique lighting conditions. While the exact aircraft lineup is not guaranteed, last year featured the B-29 “Doc” as the centerpiece. Select reenactors also join the walks, offering authentic period photo opportunities. If Saturday’s walk is canceled due to rain, it will be rescheduled for Sunday.
Night Photo Shoot
Arguably the most anticipated part of the Photo Experience is the night photo shoot. Each year, three iconic warbirds are staged under the dark Reading sky to run their engines for up to five minutes. With expert lighting provided by Lerro Photography and a wet ramp to enhance reflections, this event is always a highlight. The aircraft lineup changes annually. Last year featured the P-51C “Thunderbird,” Wings of War’s T-50 “Bamboo Betty,” and CAF West Texas Wing’s SB2C Helldiver. Previous years have included CAF Airbase Georgia’s FG-1D Corsair, Delaware Aviation Museum’s B-25 “Panchito,” American Airpower Museum’s P-40M “The Jacky C,” and the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum’s replica D3A Val.

Three-Day Pass
The Photo Experience package also includes a three-day pass to WWII Weekend. Now in its 35th year, WWII Weekend has long been one of the largest and most renowned WWII events in the country.
New for 2026 – Photo Pit Weekend Pass
New for 2026 is the Photo Pit Weekend Pass, providing full access to the photo pit throughout the weekend. This option is perfect for photographers who may not be able to attend all additional shoots but still want to experience the pit. Nearby parking, full pit access, and bagged lunch and beverages are included. Please note that this pass is limited to photo pit access only and does not include a show pass or the guided shoots. The WWII Weekend Photo Experience, combined with the flexibility of the new Photo Pit Weekend Pass, offers photographers of all skill levels a unique chance to capture and experience one of the nation’s premier WWII events. Tickets for both packages are limited and available only in advance through the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum’s website.
