PRESS RELEASE:

Royal Air Force Museum Cosford is holding its First World War Centenary Charity Ball on Saturday, August 30th, and the formal evening event is packed with entertainment and indulgences throughout. Following a champagne reception within the Museum’s National Cold War Exhibition, attendees are sure to marvel at a close formation flypast from two Eurocopter AS350BB helicopters. The type is used by air forces around the world, and indeed they are operational with the Royal Air Force at RAF Shawbury, near Shrewsbury.

A military sunset ceremony with buglers and an RAF Cosford honor guard will add a touch of formality to proceedings. A piper will then escort guests into the museum’s War Planes Hangar for a fine dining experience, surrounded by a historic aircraft collection. Guests can sit back and enjoy a gourmet, four-course dinner accompanied by a selection of fine wines, while enjoying live musical performances throughout the evening. One of the evening’s highlights will come from the RAF’s ‘Shades of Blue’ Swing Band that is guaranteed to have guests up on their feet and dancing the night away. Plus, a disco will ensure that guests are having a good time late into the evening.

A fantastic prize auction and grand raffle, bursting with a wide range of unique items and experiences, will give guests the opportunity to purchase those special things that ‘money can’t buy’. Some of the incredible prizes on offer include: the chance to enjoy a VIP afternoon for two with the Red Arrows, or for those who are brave enough, the opportunity for an aerobatics flight with Wing Commander Andy Green, an RAF fighter pilot and World Land Speed Record holder. Other prizes on offer include a Spitfire book signed by two Battle of Britain Pilots, and a Cosford flying club experience to name but a few. This glittering Centenary Charity Ball will commemorate the First World War, and help raise much needed funds for the two organizing charities – The RAF Benevolent Fund and The RAF Museum. The RAF Benevolent Fund gives vital support to RAF servicemen and women past and present and their families, who need financial, emotional or practical support. Some of the money raised will also go towards maintaining the growing aircraft collection at the RAF Museum.

Simon Footer, RAF Benevolent Fund Regional Director says, This Ball is going to be a very special event in a very special location. Table sales are going very well and the evening is shaping up to be fabulous, with a whole range of entertaining elements. It’s certainly one not to be missed and what better way to support two very worthy RAF charities. This is a unique corporate entertaining and networking opportunity with tables of ten, or individual seats available.
