This fall, the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force in Pooler, GA, on October 14, 2025, invites students, educators, and aviation enthusiasts to experience what it was like to train as a World War II bombardier. The museum’s immersive Bombardier School program, led by renowned Norden Bombsight expert Dr. Tim Moore, offers participants a rare opportunity to operate one of the most secret and revolutionary devices of the air war—the Norden Bombsight. The two-day educational program brings history to life as attendees learn to plot flight paths using dead reckoning and perform precision bombing simulations guided by real mathematical and engineering principles. Under Dr. Moore’s instruction, participants will gain firsthand insight into the technology, skill, and split-second decisions that shaped Allied air operations during World War II.
The student session will take place on October 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., lasting approximately two hours. It is recommended for students in grades 9 through 12 who have a basic understanding of geometry and trigonometry. Two adult sessions are also scheduled: October 14 at 1:00 p.m. and October 15 at 10:00 a.m. Each session will last about three hours and is open to the general public, ages 18 and up. All sessions include guided, hands-on use of authentic WWII-era equipment and expert instruction from Dr. Moore.
Participation is limited, and advance registration is required by October 13, 2025. Admission is $25 for non-members and $15 for museum members. Members should email [email protected] with the subject line “Bombardier School” to receive their promo code before purchasing.
