Although the United States entered World War II in December 1941, the first successful operations against Nazi-occupied Europe required crippling Germany’s industrial and military power. The Luftwaffe, the world’s most powerful air force at the time, became an early focus of the strategic air campaign, led by the United States Army Air Forces in coordination with Britain’s Royal Air Force. One of the most distinguished units in this campaign was the 303rd Bomb Group, known as Hell’s Angels. Named after their B-17 bomber, the group earned a reputation for courage and skill, participating in some of the most pivotal air battles of the war. Stout’s book tells the story of the 303rd through the eyes of the men who served, capturing both the drama and the sacrifices that helped shape the course of history.
