HOUSTON, Texas – The Lone Star Flight Museum (LSFM) welcomed a record-breaking 675 attendees to its 11th Annual Girls in Aviation Day, presented by ExxonMobil, on Saturday, September 20, 2025. The event, held at the museum’s facility at 11551 Aerospace Avenue at Ellington Airport in Houston, brought together aspiring aviators, students, and families for a day dedicated to aviation exploration and STEM inspiration. A total of 391 young participants, ages 8 to 17, attended alongside nearly 300 parents, scout leaders, and group mentors. Throughout the day, guests engaged in immersive activities designed to spark curiosity and encourage interest in aviation, aerospace, and other STEM-related careers.
Launched in 2015 by Women in Aviation International (WAI), Girls in Aviation Day seeks to inspire girls around the world to explore the vast opportunities within aviation and aerospace. The Lone Star Flight Museum has proudly hosted this event for the past eight years, fostering a growing community of young women passionate about flight and technology. The 2025 program featured a variety of experiences, including STEM learning activities such as drone training and hands-on experiments, a Career and College Fair with 25 aerospace companies, universities, and organizations, and aircraft tours showcasing more than 15 personal, military, and historic aircraft on the museum ramp. Visitors also enjoyed interactive exhibits, flight simulators, and a luncheon and panel discussion with leading female professionals in STEM and aerospace.
The panel was moderated by Shelly Lesikar deZevallos, Ed.D., President of West Houston Airport, pilot, and Chair of the Texas Department of Transportation Aviation Advisory Committee. Panelists included Captain Michelle Boeding, Boeing 777 Captain for United Airlines; Maria “Majo” Perdomo Cuevas, Executive Director of Operational Controls and Strategic Planning for Million Air; Sarah “Sassie” Duggleby, CEO and Co-Founder of Venus Aerospace; and Dr. Bonnie J. Dunbar, Professor of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University, former NASA astronaut, and LSFM Board Member.
Events such as Girls in Aviation Day are central to the Lone Star Flight Museum’s mission to educate, inspire, and empower the next generation of aviation professionals and innovators. About the Lone Star Flight Museum
The Lone Star Flight Museum (LSFM) is a 501(c)(3) aviation museum and STEM learning center dedicated to celebrating flight and achievements in Texas aviation while inspiring the next generation through science, technology, engineering, and math education.
