The Imperial War Museum Duxford, Cambridge, UK, will focus on the shared wartime history between Britain and the United States when Flying Days: The Americans returns on July 24, bringing together flying displays, living history groups, and exhibits centered on the Allied partnership during WWII. Part of Duxford’s seasonal Flying Days program, the event is designed as a smaller-scale alternative to the museum’s larger air shows while still offering visitors the chance to see historic aircraft in action. The museum says the theme for this year’s edition will explore the connections formed between British and American personnel through wartime service, sacrifice, and cooperation.

Visitors can expect up to two hours of flying displays spread throughout the day, alongside access to museum exhibits and themed activities across the airfield. The Flying Days series reflects different aspects of Duxford’s aviation history and gives visitors a chance to experience aircraft operations without the scale of major events such as the Duxford Summer Air Show or the Duxford Battle of Britain Air Show. Previous editions of Flying Days: The Americans have featured aircraft representing both historic and modern eras of transatlantic military aviation.

During the 2025 event, the flying program opened with a formation appearance by U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles and F-35 Lightning II fighters, highlighting the present-day military relationship between the two countries. Historic aircraft also played a major role in last year’s lineup. Among the visiting aircraft was a Canadair CL-13 Sabre Mk 6, which spent part of the summer display season appearing at Duxford and other UK events before returning to its base in France. Advance booking is required for the July 24 event, while admission remains free for IWM members. Click HERE to get your tickets.
