Canadian Aviation Library Avialogs, an online source for Canuck aircraft research, has partnered with the “Wings for Val” Foundation. All revenue generated from Avialogs’ website between March 4th and 11th was sent directly to the WFV effort. Founded in 2015, “Wings for Val” aims to keep the memory of Lt. Valerie Cappalaere Delaney alive by “promoting and supporting women in all fields, especially aviation, and to inspire future generations of female leaders.”
Lt. Cappalaere, an EA-6B “Prowler” Naval Aviator, perished on March 11th, 2013 on a training mission over Washington State. She was a member of 129th Electronic Attack Squadron, based from NAS Whidbey Island, Washington. Valerie achieved the rank of Lieutenant (posthumously), she also earned the National Defense and Terrorism Service Medals. Her core values in life are the same that “Wings for Val” carries on. “Courage, Integrity, Mentorship, Service, and Leadership.”
“Wings for Val” has a vision with these values. “Women will become empowered leaders who reach forward for mentorship, who reach back to support and inspire those behind them, and who approach any obstacle with the mindset to adapt and overcome.” The foundation’s mission is certainly a noble one, and shows poise for success. With support from Avialogs, who shares a common mission of promoting aviation (with over 5000 physical documents and 12,000 electronic versions), WFV will truly “take-off.”
