PRESS RELEASE

Two of the most iconic aircraft of World War II will touch down at Page Field in Fort Myers from October 27–30 as part of the B-29 DOC History Restored Tour. The Boeing B-29 Superfortress known as “DOC” is one of only two airworthy B-29s remaining from nearly 4,000 built during the war. Constructed in Wichita, Kansas, in 1945, DOC represents one of the most advanced aircraft of its era — a long-range heavy bomber that helped change the course of aviation history. Joining DOC will be the North American P-51 Mustang “Gunfighter,” built in Inglewood, California, and delivered to the U.S. Army Air Forces in March 1945 before being assigned to the famed Eighth Air Force in England.

“Flying in a B-29 or P-51 is like stepping back in time — it’s a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and innovation that defined an entire generation,” said Dan Schone, B-29 DOC aircraft commander. “Each stop on our tour connects people with the living history of World War II aviation. We’re especially excited to share this experience with the Fort Myers community, where the love of flight and aviation heritage run deep.”

The B-29 DOC History Restored Tour stop at Page Field will be a ride-only event. While ground and cockpit tours will not be available, visitors can book flight experiences aboard either aircraft. Both warbirds will arrive on Monday, October 27, with ride flights scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, October 28–29. Tickets are available at www.b29doc.com/rides and www.p51gunfighter.com.

“We’re thrilled to bring P-51 Gunfighter back to Florida skies and share a piece of living history with the Fort Myers community,” said Jeff Linebaugh, Gunfighter pilot and ride coordinator. “Every flight is a tribute to the men and women who built, maintained, and flew these machines in defense of freedom. Page Field’s rich aviation history makes it the perfect place to honor that legacy.” The Fort Myers stop marks the second of six Florida destinations on the 2025 tour. Additional stops for B-29 DOC and P-51 Gunfighter can be found at www.b29doc.com/events and www.b29doc.com/gunfighter.
