The Hickory Aviation Museum will celebrate the grand opening of its new home on Saturday, May 16, 2026, marking a major step forward in its mission to preserve the “Golden Age of Aviation.” Located at 821 21st Street NW, at the northeast corner of Hickory Regional Airport, NC, the new facility provides an expanded space for the museum’s growing collection and community activities.
Staffed by dedicated volunteers, the non-profit organization is driven by a shared passion for flight. Beyond its aircraft displays, the museum serves as a gathering place where veterans from all branches come together to share stories and camaraderie, offering younger generations a hands-on opportunity to connect with aviation history. “We are a group obsessed with the love of aviation,” museum leadership said. “Our goal is to maintain the facts and truths of aviation history, ensuring that the artifacts and memorabilia of legendary aircraft and noteworthy aviation figures are preserved for the future.” The museum continues to evolve, with new exhibits and aircraft regularly added to provide a fresh experience for returning visitors.

The grand opening event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 16. Following the opening, regular hours will be Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the museum closed on Mondays. Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for children ages 6–17, $10 for veterans and seniors (65+), while children under 6 are admitted free. Group tours will not be scheduled until June, with admission details to be announced.
