The tour begins September 22 and runs through October 15, with stops in Albuquerque, New Mexico (September 23–24), San Diego, California (September 26–28), Chino, California (September 30 – October 5), Inyokern/Ridgecrest, California (October 7–12), and Goodyear, Arizona (October 14–15).

Built in Wichita, Kansas, in 1945, B-29 DOC is one of just two airworthy B-29s left in the world. P-51 Gunfighter, a D-model Mustang also built in 1945, was originally assigned to the “Mighty Eighth” Air Force in England and played a vital role escorting bombers over Europe.

“The B-29 Superfortress and P-51 Mustang each carry powerful legacies that represent America’s air power and ingenuity during World War II,” said Josh Wells, B-29 DOC Executive Director. “Bringing them together on tour offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity for the public to experience aviation history up close.” These two aircraft represent the combined might of America’s wartime industry—factories that produced thousands of bombers, fighters, tanks, and munitions in record time. The arrival of the P-51 Mustang in the European theater provided critical long-range escort for bombers, dramatically improving mission success rates and saving countless lives.

“Seeing P-51 Gunfighter flying alongside B-29 DOC recreates the teamwork that defined the air war of WWII,” said Larry Lumpkin, Gunfighter Team Manager. “This tour is a living history lesson, bringing the story of the Greatest Generation to life for audiences across the country.” Both aircraft will offer flight experience rides, as well as opportunities for ground and cockpit tours when not flying.
