The four-engine World War II-era bomber, based in Addison, Texas, had been sidelined due to extensive repairs required on two of its Wright R-3350 Duplex-Cyclone engines. As reported earlier this year by Vintage Aviation News, technicians worked meticulously to disassemble, inspect, and repair the engines—an effort that required hard-to-source parts, deep technical expertise, and a major investment of time and resources. The result is a fully operational FIFI, once again ready to educate, inspire, and fly.

Originally built in 1945, FIFI is one of only two B-29s in the world still flying today, the other being Doc, based in Wichita, Kansas. The aircraft served as a testbed postwar before being rescued from the desert by the CAF in the early 1970s. Since then, FIFI has flown countless hours at airshows and tours across the U.S., offering the public rare opportunities to witness the sound, scale, and presence of this historic heavy bomber. Now back in flying condition, FIFI is headlining the CAF’s AirPower History Tour, a traveling showcase of historic warbirds that includes iconic aircraft such as the B-24 Diamond Lil, T-6 Texans, P-51 Mustangs, and more. The tour features flight demonstrations, cockpit tours, and the unforgettable chance for attendees to fly aboard these vintage aircraft—including FIFI herself.

Visitors can not only view the B-29 up close but also book a ride in one of the most technologically advanced bombers of its time. Flying in FIFI provides a visceral, immersive experience of what aircrews endured during World War II bombing missions—albeit in far safer and more comfortable conditions. Tour stops for 2025 are scheduled throughout the United States, offering enthusiasts multiple opportunities to catch this rare warbird in action.
