Rumors are swirling in the LEGO aviation community that another iconic aircraft is set to join the LEGO Icons lineup in 2026 — and this time, it’s one of the most important airliners in history. According to LEGO-focused news sites Bricktastic and Brick Fanatics, LEGO is preparing a nearly 2,000-piece model of the legendary Douglas DC-3. The set, rumored to carry the designation 11378 Douglas DC-3 Commercial Aircraft, is said to be scheduled for release on April 1, 2026. If accurate, the model will include 1,903 pieces and retail for $219.99.

The DC-3 would follow recent large-scale aviation releases in the LEGO Icons range, notably the Saturn V Rocket, 10318 Concorde, the 10360 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, and the NASA Artemis Space Launch System Rocket. Like those sets, the DC-3 is expected to target adult builders and aviation enthusiasts, celebrating both engineering achievement and historical significance.

First flying in 1935, the Douglas DC-3 revolutionized commercial aviation, making passenger air travel reliable, profitable, and widely accessible. Its influence extended well beyond civilian use, with military variants such as the C-47 Skytrain becoming indispensable during World War II and beyond. Many DC-3s remain flying today, a testament to the aircraft’s robust design and enduring appeal. While LEGO has not officially confirmed the set, the prospect of a detailed DC-3 model has already generated excitement among builders, collectors, and aviation historians alike. If the rumors prove true, the DC-3 would be a fitting addition to LEGO’s growing fleet of historic aircraft — and a brick-built tribute to an airplane that truly changed the world.
