The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force will welcome author Yvonne Caputo for a special presentation as part of its monthly Author Talk series. Caputo, author of Flying with Dad: A Father, a Daughter, and the Hidden Gifts of His Stories from WWII, will share the deeply personal story of her father, Captain Michael Caputo of the 467th Bomb Group. The event will take place on Saturday, October 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the museum in Pooler, Georgia. The program is free and open to the public, though registration is requested at https://forms.gle/UxEB9Kfh6r9zoceKA. Guests may also join for an optional lunch following the talk. Lunch prices are $10 (cash) / $12 (credit) for museum members and $15 (cash) / $17 (credit) for non-members.

In Flying with Dad, Caputo chronicles her journey of discovery through the untold stories of her father’s World War II service. The book recounts how Captain Michael Caputo transitioned from repairing aircraft to navigating B-24 bombers, his encounters with heavy German flak, and the emotional toll of a particular mission over Unterschlauersbach, Germany. Through her patient conversations and growing empathy, Yvonne forged a deeper connection with her father, resulting in an enduring bond built on respect, understanding, and healing. Flying with Dad is both poignant and uplifting—a testament to the power of storytelling to bridge generations and bring resolution to the lingering shadows of war.

She holds a master’s degree in education and clinical psychology and has served as Vice President of Human Resources, a corporate trainer, and a consultant. Currently, she is the president of the 467th Bomb Group Association, preserving the legacy of her father’s wartime unit. The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force honors the courage, valor, and sacrifice of the men and women who served in the Eighth Air Force—the largest air armada in history. Through exhibits, films, artifacts, and archival materials, the museum tells the story of those whose service and dedication contributed to the Allied victory in World War II. Highlights include a fully restored B-17 “Flying Fortress” and the “Mission Experience,” a multimedia theater attraction that places visitors in the middle of a World War II bombing mission using authentic combat footage. Born in Milan, Italy, Moreno moved to the U.S. in 1999 to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. His aviation passion began early, inspired by his uncle, an F-104 Starfighter Crew Chief, and his father, a military traffic controller. Childhood adventures included camping outside military bases and watching planes at Aeroporto Linate. In 1999, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to obtain his commercial pilot license, a move that became permanent. With 24 years in the U.S., he now flies full-time for a Part 91 business aviation company in Atlanta. He is actively involved with the Commemorative Air Force, the D-Day Squadron, and other aviation organizations. He enjoys life with his supportive wife and three wonderful children.
