The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, has announced that Southwest Airlines’ special-livery Boeing 737 MAX 8, Independence One, will be among the featured aircraft at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026. The aircraft is scheduled to arrive on July 22 and will be displayed on Boeing Plaza during its visit. The aircraft was introduced by Southwest Airlines as a tribute to America’s 250th anniversary. According to the airline, Independence One will arrive carrying Southwest employees who have served in the U.S. military, along with employees whose family members have served. Collectively, those aboard represent more than 1,300 years of military service.

The 73rd edition of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh will be held at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh on July 20-26. Organized annually by the Experimental Aircraft Association, the event draws hundreds of thousands of aviation enthusiasts and thousands of aircraft from around the world. “‘Independence One’ is a stunning, colorful tribute to our freedom as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary in 2026,” said Rick Larsen, EAA’s vice president of communities and member programs, who coordinates AirVenture features and attractions. “It will undoubtedly be a big attraction and photo op during AirVenture, as EAA again brings together airplanes and people in a single location that is unmatched anywhere else in the world.“

Southwest Airlines is also continuing its support of WomenVenture, EAA’s annual program dedicated to women in aviation. As part of this year’s event, Emily Estapa, the airline’s Managing Director of Network Operations Control, ATC Training and Standards, and a U.S. Air Force veteran, will speak during the July 22 forum. “When women come together, we’re able to support one another and share our journeys,” Estapa said. “That collective sense of belonging and visibility doesn’t just advance individual careers—it elevates the entire aviation industry.” Independence One is expected to remain on display at Boeing Plaza throughout July 22, giving AirVenture visitors an opportunity to view the aircraft up close during its visit.
