The distinctive rumble of radial engines will echo over Savannah this week as the Commemorative Air Force’s AirPower History Tour arrives at Savannah Hilton Head Airport, May 6–10. Headlining the visit is the Boeing B-29 Superfortress FIFI, one of only two airworthy examples of the type in the world. Joining the B-29 are a North American T-6 Texan, a Boeing PT-13 Stearman, the RC-45J SNB Big Oily Beast, and special guest the L-26B Commander Ike’s Bird, which served as Air Force One for President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

The AirPower History Tour brings the sights, sounds, and stories of WWII aviation to airports across North America each year. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the aircraft up close, purchase ride experiences, and tour the cockpit of the B-29 when it is not flying. The aircraft will be based at the Sheltair Aviation FBO ramp at Savannah Hilton Head Airport (100 Eddie Jungemann Drive, Savannah, Georgia).

The event will be open to the public Wednesday through Sunday, May 6–10, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission to the ramp is $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 11–17, and free for children 10 and under. Ride flights will be available on the T-6, PT-13, RC-45J, and L-26B each day. The B-29 will offer flights on Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Cockpit tours of FIFI begin daily at 9:00 a.m., except on Saturday and Sunday when tours start at noon. Advance ride bookings and additional information are available at AirPowerTour.org.
