The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome located in red Hook, NY, will host an exclusive night photography event on October 4, 2025, offering a rare opportunity to capture vintage aircraft in dramatic night lighting. Night engine-run photo shoots have grown increasingly popular among aviation photographers, providing striking images with clean, dramatic composition and the classic “disc-effect” of turning propellers. Six aircraft will be individually positioned and illuminated with continuous-source LEDs for approximately eight minutes each. This timing allows photographers to capture the planes from multiple angles, creating unique and memorable shots.
The event will be led by Tom Pawlesh, a retired airline pilot and lifelong aviation enthusiast who has also dedicated decades to aviation photography. Pawlesh volunteers his time for the museum; his contribution highlights the collaborative spirit behind this event, which also serves as a valuable fundraiser for the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome to support its historic aircraft collection and ongoing operations. Tickets for the event are sold as donations, and participants should note that the evening is weather-dependent. In the event of inclement weather, no refunds are issued, and donations will remain with the museum, ensuring that even cancelled events contribute to its preservation mission. The event is limited to 40 photographers, with advance registration required. Participants should plan to arrive at 5:30 pm, with the shooting session scheduled from 6:15 pm to 9:00 pm. Attendees are advised to dress warmly, as evening temperatures can be chilly. This night photo shoot promises a unique and memorable experience for aviation enthusiasts, offering rare access, expert guidance, and the chance to create striking images—all while supporting the museum’s mission and historic aircraft collection.
